TYPE
Underground Drainage Pipes and Fittings:
- Material: Often made from PVC, these pipes are durable, resistant to corrosion, and can handle high volumes of water.
- Design: Typically, they are designed to be slightly flexible to withstand earth movements. They often come in diameters ranging from 110mm to 160mm for standard residential use.
- Fittings: Include bends, junctions, reducers, and connectors to facilitate directional changes and branching off. Rubber rings are used for sealing joints to prevent leaks.
- Colour: Commonly found in terracotta or black colour to differentiate them from above-ground pipes.
- Applications: Used for carrying waste and rainwater away from buildings to sewer or septic systems.
Overground Drainage Pipes and Fittings:
- Material: These are usually made of materials like PVC.
- Design: They are more rigid compared to underground pipes. Diameters vary based on their use, with smaller sizes for residential and larger for commercial buildings.
- Fittings: Include elbows, T-joints, couplings, and brackets for mounting to walls or ceilings. They often have screw fittings or push-fit designs for easy installation.
- Colour: Often white, black or light grey, making them easily distinguishable from underground pipes.
- Applications: Used for carrying waste water from fixtures (like sinks, toilets, and showers) to the underground drainage system.
